Faux-Suede Leather Fabric (FFSLF) is an ethical alternative to real suede

Faux-Suede Leather Fabric (FFSLF) is an ethical alternative to real suede, providing a luxurious texture without the animal hide requirement. FFF has become increasingly popular with fashion and furniture designers looking for cruelty-free solutions while still offering a luxurious feel and easy maintenance.
Making suede can be a complex process, as manufacturers first must prepare the hides for transformation into fabric. Hides must first be slaughtered and skinned before natural chemicals like lime are used to remove all hair follicles from their surface. Once this step has been completed, leather tanning begins and the hides can then be transformed into suede fabric.
At this step, manufacturers separate the underside of leather from its topside to produce thin suede material, commonly used in clothing, footwear, and handbags; it may also be found in leather goods like gloves and belts. Suede tends to be soft with its distinctive brush-like texture coming from its unique connection to animal skin hairs - these tufts of fur give it its unique brush-like character that changes with every rub in different directions.
Suede fabric is a favorite among fashion designers due to its lightweight and adaptability, being highly malleable and easily molded into any shape desired. Since then, however, its luxurious qualities have made it popular as furniture upholstery fabric as well.
Note that while suede makes for an attractive upholstery material, it is not water resistant - any food or liquid spillage could stain and leave marks. To combat this problem, regularly clean your suede upholstery using damp cloths or sponges with a mild detergent or cleaning fluid and use mild cleaners rather than bleach as this could damage the material.
To create faux suede, manufacturers use polymer threads that mimic the weight and consistency of leather fibers. Once this step is completed, these threads are woven in double or triple weaves which help create its textured appearance. Next comes brushing for more texture before being backed by soft poly fabric backing to protect it against tears or scratches.
Faux suede is much less expensive than genuine suede, making it an attractive option for DIY furniture makers who wish to use faux suede instead of genuine suede in their projects. However, keep in mind that the material is less durable than genuine suede, making it suitable for indoor use only.
